According to the Guardian, the incident occurred while President Joe Biden was waiting to board Air Force One on June 9 to begin his trip to England to attend the G7 summit.
While President Biden was chatting with an official on the tarmac of Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, a cicada landed on his neck.
This moment was recorded by CNN news agency’s camera.
Then, Mr. Biden pointed toward the cicada, seemingly to announce the appearance of a strange creature.
`Be careful with cicadas. I just met one. It just landed on me,` Mr. Biden told reporters.
A CNN White House reporter posted video of the incident on Twitter, attaching the caption: `The President brushes a cicada off his neck before boarding Air Force One.`
The video has so far been viewed more than 92,500 times and received many comments.
`It might not be simply a cicada. It might be a conspiracy,` Twitter account Jaiishiv wrote.
Another Twitter account, Eiqhl, commented: `Have they checked to make sure it wasn’t sent by ‘Russians’ or ‘Chinese’?`
However, President Biden’s neck is not the only target of cicadas.
The plane carrying White House reporters accompanying President Biden on his trip to Europe is scheduled to take off from Dulles International Airport at 9:00 p.m., June 8, local time.
The White House was forced to send another plane instead.
Meanwhile, President Biden’s flight was not affected and the US leader still made his plan to go to Europe on schedule.
Previously, cicadas also `threatened` Air Force Two on June 6, when Vice President Kamala Harris flew to Guatemala.
In the US, every 17 years, billions of Brood X cicadas emerge from the ground, molt and reproduce.
During his eight-day trip to Europe, Mr. Biden will make his first stop in the UK to attend the G7 summit.
