Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez began his visit to China this week.

Mr. Sanchez had planned to attend trade meetings at the Boao Forum for Asia on China’s Hainan Island on March 30 before traveling to Beijing to meet President Xi Jinping on March 31.

The Spanish Prime Minister said he would `find out directly China’s position on peace in Ukraine and convey the message that Ukrainians will establish the conditions for peace`.

Mr. Sanchez added that Xi Jinping’s invitation to the Spanish leader to visit China demonstrated `international recognition for Spain at a time of such complex geopolitical difficulties.`

Prime Minister Sanchez’s visit to China took place after Mr. Xi Jinping had talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow to promote Beijing’s 12-point peace plan for Ukraine.

French President Emmanuel Macron also announced his willingness to visit China early next month to discuss the situation in Ukraine.

In addition to Mr. Macron and Ms. von der Leyen, the European Union’s top diplomat Josep Borrell also said that he will visit China soon, although the date of the trip has not yet been announced.
