Russian Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov accused the US and Ukraine of violating the terms of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) when Kiev forces used illegal ammunition on the battlefield.

According to RT news agency (Russia), the head of the Russian Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces has provided some evidence of Kiev’s alleged use of banned chemical weapons and chemical substances.

General Kirillov accused Ukraine of using drones to drop US-made air grenades on December 28, 2023.

Kirillov said the US transfer of such weapons to Ukraine was a direct violation of OPCW rules, which state that a country `must not transfer chemical weapons directly or indirectly to any person`.

Ukraine and the US have not spoken out about Russia’s accusations.

Previously, on June 15, 2023, General Kirillov said Russian forces were attacked by a drone carrying a tank full of chloropicrin, which is classified as a Schedule 3 compound under the Nuclear Convention.

According to General Kirillov, Russian intelligence believes that Ukrainian forces, under Western guidance, are developing a new military tactic using a `chemical belt`.

He added that the plan to use toxic chemicals on such a large scale is evidenced by Kiev’s request that the European Union (EU) provide the country with hundreds of thousands of antidotes, gas masks and

`Clearly, the quantity that Ukraine requested is too large for a country that does not have chemical weapons,` Mr. Kirillov said.

The Russian general said there was still no response from the OPCW even though all the evidence was presented to the organization four months ago.

In November, Russia lost its seat on the OPCW Executive Council after failing to receive enough votes from other members of the organization.
