In an interview with Sputnik on February 28, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that France and Germany signing bilateral security agreements with Ukraine does not affect relations with Russia because this relationship has `already been established`.

`Referring specifically to Russia-Germany and Russia-France relations, I would like to emphasize that, unfortunately, at this stage there is very little that can affect those relations for the worse.`

`This is not our decision. For two years, we have watched how NATO countries, including Germany and France, play a particularly active role, in providing lethal weapons

Ms. Zakharova said that the leaders of these countries still pursue the goal of forcing Russia to fail strategically and consider the `peace formula` given by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as an `ultimatum` to Moscow.

`In this context, the signing of new agreements is another, albeit symbolic, move in the West’s hybrid war with Russia, showing its unwillingness to follow the foreign path

The relationship between Russia and the West, including France and Germany, has become more tense since the Russia-Ukraine conflict broke out two years ago.

Earlier this week, French President Emmanuel Macron caused controversy with his statement that the West did not rule out the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine.

However, Western allies immediately rejected the idea of sending troops to Ukraine and affirmed that supporting Kiev would still be in the form of providing military equipment and military training.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zakharova commented: `The leaders of many European governments quickly said that they did not and do not have similar plans. This shows that they understand the danger.`

On the other hand, the Kremlin warns that if the West sends troops to Ukraine, a conflict between Russia and NATO will be difficult to avoid.

Chairman of the Russian State Duma (House of Representatives) Vyacheslav Volodin criticized Mr. Macron’s statement as `dangerous` and could spark World War III.

`His ideas are becoming dangerous for the French people. Before making such statements, Mr. Macron should remember the end of (French Emperor) Napoleon and his soldiers like that
